Heating coils for air-handling units

Heating coils for air-handling units Heaters · 10

Heating coils warm outdoor air. Aurum Prodest sizes water and electric coils on airflow and heating-water schedule, fits freeze protection and does not let the unit ice on the first January night shift.

Water coils are cheaper to run with a network or boiler, and die without protection: sensor, fan trip, mixing valve, capillary. Electric is simpler hydraulically and heavier on the board and tariff. We price both if heating water is doubtful.

About the service

Water coils are cheaper to run with a network or boiler, and die without protection: sensor, fan trip, mixing valve, capillary. Electric is simpler hydraulically and heavier on the board and tariff. We price both if heating water is doubtful.

Duty from outdoor and supply temperatures, not “the section in the neighbour’s AHU”. Weak — winter complaints; oversized electric — tripped breakers. Pipework: strainer, vent, balance.

In the AHU or a duct coil. Insulate after the coil so you do not heat the loft. Commission supply temperature and no freeze at minimum water.

A coil is not a dock air curtain — different jobs. We say so in the brief instead of hanging a section over the door “to be cheaper”.

Service: water wash, element check, sensors. Tie-in to AHU and exchanger pages so the same engineer owns freeze protection.

Brands

Coils and heat exchangers: sizing first, brand second. Pros/cons cover durability, hydraulics, and kit completeness.

Brand Class Pros Cons
Daikin Premium One ecosystem with manufacturer systems Costlier than universal coils
Güntner Premium Premium heat exchange for industrial loops High price and lead times
Alfa Laval Premium Precise plate HEX selection Premium budget per unit
Carrier Mid-range Clear ratings and familiar hydraulics Not always best efficiency/$
Systemair Mid-range Easy match to same-brand AHUs Narrower than pure heat specialists
Klingenburg Mid-range Rotary recovery for efficient AHUs Niche vs full HVAC brands

FAQ

Why did the coil freeze?

No protection, low water, night pump off. Design and controls, not “a bad section”.

Is electric safer than water?

Against ice — yes. Elements have fire rules. We pick per site.

Heat an office with the coil only, no radiators?

Sometimes if air change is huge. Usually the coil is for outdoor air, not room heating.

Into an already bought AHU?

If the section allows. Sometimes a new unit is cheaper.

Lead time?

Made-to-order sections — weeks. Stock in the quote.

With a recuperator?

Recovery cuts coil kW. We size together.
