VRF/VRV is not “hang units and charge.” First size loads and diversity, check pipe length and height limits, select outdoor modules with margin. Design errors later mean re-piping or outdoor replacement.
Stages: design → delivery → indoor/outdoor install → brazing → vacuum and pressure test → charge → addressing and controllers → full mode tests. Hotels and offices add zoning scenes and staff training.
Common mistakes: weak vacuum, tight bends, missing oil traps, address mix-ups, no service hatches. Later: leaks, oil in low units, remote errors.
Schedule before ceiling finishes — VRF pipes belong in the rough-in phase.
Coordinate pipes with other trades before brazing — clashes kill the schedule.
Keep vacuum and charge logs; warranties need numbers.
Outdoor units need isolation pads, service clearance and drain paths.
Train the building admin on zoning — otherwise VRF is run like many splits.
